You're going to have to sit me down and explain this one to me.............so, the puppet character in the pictures represents male self-loathing and the fraility of the human mind? Or am I grabbing completely the wrong end of the stick?

Invasion of the Student Body Snatchers is a personal favourite.

Gil Elvgren is one of my favourites, definitely. The man absolutely soared above all other pinup illustrators. His work was a bit like this lovely site, actually: sexy but humane. More than that: sexy because of its humanity.

I can really get into the visual fun that Witkin, Charlie White, and Crewdson are having, but I've never felt emotional attached to the work they make. It may be the static nature of photography, when it is used in this sort of fabricated/theatircal manner.
They seem to take a lot of cues from motion pictures, and, in my opinion, this kind of imagery comes to life in this medium. David Lynch or J.P. Jeunet, (at their best) leave you emotionally involved as well as visually fascinated.

gotta love david lynch. makes awesome flicks!

.Most of the artists listed look like they were drawing their "acid" flash backs.
Bill Henson I don't know what to think. A man who photographs underage sex workers, and then posts them as art.
I know its supposed to bring about awareness. But to me, thats not "Art". But a documentary of human depravity and ignorance.
Those who do exalt it as art with association of sexual awareness. I just dont understand. Like the guy who plays with Muppets.

It's interesting that you read them as documenting underage sex workers... cos they aren't at all. They are staged scenes with hired models, and i don't read them as having much of anything to do with sex.

Anyway, here some guy's reaction to Bill henson. (whose works like Jock sturges, and david hamilton are banned in some parts in my country.)

Also here is the discussion. Some claim like you that they are models, others real. Either way, the reaction too the pictures are interesting. Too say the least.

I know they are models because many of my friends are in the images. Here is a good one ..

Too be honest, I am not a good guesser of age. Some 15 year olds could pass for 20, some 20 year olds for 15.
To give an exp.
Abby's site has a model in the past named Beth. She looked 14 to me. But she was also very petite when the shoot was done.
Just by curosity, how old was your friend during the shoot?
Once no offense was meant. But, I have learned to be very pessimistic when it comes to the net. With the child porn craze at absurd levels. (exp throwing nudists in jail) You must be carefull at all times. (please note, any sexual contact with a minor should be illegal. But nudity in a natural setting is sexual? No, The problem is in the mind of the beholder. Not in the nudity.)
(oh, forgot to add. I have been a member to domai since its newsgroup spaming days. And it, like Met was famous at one time for something. Victorian looking real teen nudes. Much like Bill henson pics of the 1970's. Which I have seen by the way in various book stores. Since the 1980's.)
And I still don't get the self loathing puppit thing.

As a lover of old warbirds, I used to see all kinds of 'nose art' from WWII bombers and fighters, and I got a real interest going in some of the painted-on pin-up girls. I eventually became fascinated with the work of Alberto Vargas. I have a decent collection of books, prints, calendars, trading cards, etc. of his work. Beautiful.
Do a Google search on his name, and behold his work, if you're not familiar with it.

I love Bill Henson, I went to the exhibition at NGV just last month. The guy I was with ranted about the pictures of youths, said it encouraged paedophiles, we had a big row outside. I don't know very much about art, so thanks Shannon, I've investigated your list and I am impressed. From what I have seen before now. I like Franco B

Shannon, I am still late this time, if you are still for new subjects, what about a very sensual and spiritual experience : skydiving! Have you tried that?
On a skydiver T-Shirt, one can read : Remember when sex was safe and skydiving dangerous !
At least solo sex is not dangerous and all agonees are safe.

The wonders of Egon Schiele should be considered as well.
For those who love the human form, like the subjects to be challenging in terms of sexuality and appropriateness (he liked to use street kids for models), there's something for everyone. He was also friends with Gustav Klimt which has become a popular figure in mass reproduced contemporary art making him board line "main stream".

Dave Dorman. Greatest artist in history. I've met a lot of "celebs" at conventions, but I never had butterflies in my stomach other than when I was about to meet Dorman for the first time and ask for his autograph. I honestly thought I might barf, or even worse, just stand there paralyzed. Dorman... Frazetta... Vallejo. In that order people. And a really cool guy. Very obliging of his fans. Especially when he thinks you might throw up on his table.
Nuff Said....
