Hello everybody, I noted on performers an exceptionally high incidence of piercings and quite specially on the tongue... It appears to be a bias of selection and I wondered if anyone would have a cue why that? It could be that either many performers are recruited in definite social circles where tongue piercing is a mark of belonging and if it is the case, I'd be interested to know which in particular, or else, if it is a cultural phenomenon, if tongue piercings are more common and maybe fashion in regions where most of the participants come from - because it is quite rare in my region of Latin Europe. Being academic lecturer in sexual health, I think that among my students I may have seen all in all less than ten those piercings in the last ten years... Thanks, folks and have plenty of good time! (and sorry for my approximate English..)

Hi Chmchris,
The participants of Beautiful Agony come from around the globe and I think that perhaps it's just chance that these people have piercings, body modification has gained a lot of popularity over the years. I also think that they often go unnoticed a lot of the time, the tongue isn't exactly a part of someone else's body that you focus on. Perhaps now that you're consciously looking for them you might find them more often?
For myself, in Australia piercings are quite common for people of all ages and they have become quite fashionable. I think that if you were to ask some of my friends if I had a tongue piercing that they wouldn't be able to tell you, and I've had mine for over 10 years. Simply because they would never have noticed it.
