help with DVD

I hope somebody can help.
I burned some videos on to DVD when I play them some stop the picture and show black at the end but keep the sound going. I tryed taking a file from the DVD and putting it back on my hard disk and it plays perfectly. A friend gave me a disk he burnt of other things and I get black at the ends aswell.
I run XP windows media player and burnt using nero. My friend used windows movie maker so I would assume that it is not nero.

try using a different dvd program to play the dvd's.  Like Power dvd or something like that.

Thanks Pendragon I downloaded AVS DVD Player (freeware) and now have no problems.
