I'm not a woman but I wanted to say that I've watched my wife do this a number of times and it is quite erotic. Apparently she got started masturbating that way and still uses the technique now and then. I'm not sure how common it is overall. I believe Shere Hite has some statistics on it and, as I recall, it is a minority technique.

Shere Hite is the author of some groundbreaking books on sexuality. The Hite Report on female sexuality and then the Hite Report on male sexuality. Worth a look, interesting reading (haven't seen the second yet thpugh so can't comment on that), explodes a fair few myths, exposes a fair few truths.

ptr45, I saw your post at the beginning of this column. Shere Hite mentioned that about 5% of the women masturbate when lying on their stomach but not necessarily humping a pillow. That way they can also use their fingers. I also mentioned in an early post that since there is more than 400 agonees in BA we should have at least 20 agonees making it on their belly. In BA we have about 4 of them and no males at all. See Ms#200 on her Overkill #OV076, this is what she does and if you are very attentive you even can see for 1 or 2 seconds her butt over her left shoulder at the precise time of 1:25. I understand. My current wife told me that she started humping a pillow more or less by accident. It felt good so she kept at it. For a while it was her preferred method of masturbation. However, I agree that the technique is probably somewhat rare.

ptr45, I bet seeing your wife doing it on her belly is very erotic, you are a lucky man. Some girls are more sexy than other when they masturbate. While some retreat  in their self interior and almost become stranger other have a certain conviviality and are really more aroused by your presence when they masturbate. My first wife was really sexy when masturbating in front of me. She did it once while standing up, a fantastic vision. At the end, I had to help her for not falling. Yes, when you are masturbating with a partner I think it is natural to be more... outgoing than otherwise. You can call it performing but you can also call it communicating. It's nice to let your partner know how you are feeling, etc, by the way you move or the sounds you make. And of course it's nice to turn him/her on by touching yourself. My wife and I masturbate together fairly regularly and it is very much a mutual form of sex when we do... not really like masturbating privately at all.

What a fascinating discussion, and as a new member I wanted to contribute, too. This is my first submission, so here goes!
As far as the mutual form of sex/masturbation goes, my girlfriend and I have found the following very exciting. I lay on my back, my girlfriend then lies on top of me on her back. Why I am talking about my former British girlfriend is that because we had very good sex together. This is the only girlfriend I had who was able to lay on her side (on my right side) when I was on my back and who could manage to give me a hand job with her right hand while fingering herself with her left hand.
