By request, we have added a new link that allows you to download videos directly from the main page in your preferred format. Just right-click on the "DL" link and save the video to your hard drive.

Unlike the old site, you have to be logged into BA for the download link to work.
For firefox, just right click on the dl link and choose save link as.

It DOES download this way, but the filename is always "view_media.php" - someone should correct this!

This is another one of those areas where the user settings should be used to provide a direct link to the media rather than passing it all through some php script.

I am still getting used to the new site and agree that MPEG is a good non proprietary widely supported format. However, under Linux I have had success playing both the Apple Quicktime (MOV) format and Microsoft (WMV) videos using either (a) Xine (ref http://xinehq.de); and (b) Mplayer (ref http://www.mplayerhq.hu). Both are free and very capable players, although some effort is required to build them and get them working properly, something I would not have had to do if BA included non-proprietary formats like MPEG. I think the new WMV files look a bit better, and the new content in some way compensates for the hassle I have had to go through.
