Hi. I'm a new member of beautiful agony. I have to say this is the greatest site I've ever come across. I've looked for exactly this kind of thing for years but never found it until now. I have never subscribed to any porn site in the past but when I saw this I just had to. It is simply the most erotic thing I've ever seen in my life.
However, there are some real problems with the new layout. The first problem is why are you abandoning the MPEG format? It's universal, allows me to use pretty much any player, and even allows me to play videos in Linux. By supporting only WMV (YUK!) and Quicktime you've effectively eliminated people from easily viewing your videos on this platform. I have to say I have a real problem with these formats. Can you keep the MPG format for downloading or what about moving to something like XVID or DIVX? These formats allow very good compression rates and aren't tied to any platform.
Second problem: I use Firefox as my browser and when the video (or confession) is not available in MOV format for streaming, Firefox will not play the video (says it needs a plugin which doesn't seem to exist).
Third: another Firefox problem. Clicking on the DL link just opens a full screen Quicktime window in the browser. Right clicking on the DL link and selecting 'Save Link As' will save the file but name it 'view_media.php'.
As I said, I am a new member, and part of the reason I joined was because of straight MPEG support and the fact that everything worked well in Firefox. With the current problems I really can't see my self continuing my membership as so many things just don't work right now. Can these issues be addressed?
Thanks again and keep up the great work on this amazing site!

i am about as computer illiterate as one can be and still do business with you. I use AOL, I know nothing about the various formats, but I know that I'm trying my third download of the night, i've changed nothing on my end, and I'm getting p.o'ed. My first two both quit after about a minute. I've never had a moment's problem & I've downloaded maybe 8-10(?). please get this settled quickly.... this isn't the agony I had in mind

Have you filled out a Help form? That will get your issues dealt with promptly.

We're working on those annoyances, but we won't be retaining MPG's. We are already doubling our workload where rendering is concerned, by providing 4 formats; adding MPG would make that 6, with added disk space and upload load. (We just added a new RAID array to the server, and soon we'll have to get a faster uplink). While we understand why someone would want to hang onto an outdated, albeit universal format, it simply isn't practical for us to support that very small minority. After all, with a little effort, anyone can play either WMV or QT, it's a matter of convenience. With the supersize videos and Confessions, we'll be experiencing a substantial increase in traffic, another cost we'll absorb. We certainly don't want to have to increase our prices; we've worked very hard to add value to your membership, funded by increased popularity of the site, but there are limits. Sorry we can't please everyone all the time.

yeah, WMV and QT will both play fine on my ubuntu install, and I have no problems with quicktime streaming in firefox. You just have to be able to actually install the relevant packages... This will take 5 seconds of your time...

Fair enough Richard. I understand you can only support so many formats and you have to use what is best for the majority. No matter what format these videos are in, they are all amazing!
Thanks

Having the same Firefox problems as johnnyd. Changing media player preferences seems to do nothing. Correct plugins are installed. Using Firefox 1.5 beta 2 w/ windows xp.
Problems are really with the older videos. Thanks.

PS: New format looks great. Nice design! Just wish it would work correctly

My slightly more than $.02...
I sent help a message yesterday about why there was no WMP playback for Opera, and promptly got a response saying it was going to be reintroduced soon, apparently it had been removed because it didn't seem to work for everyone. Today it was, much to my joy (yay customer service ). Much to my chagrin however, it doesn't play any of the videos in the right size. They're all shrunk down to something like 100 pixels in width (QT still works fine though, but I like saving the videos and playing them in sequence and in full screen). I really hate to be a pain in the ass about this, since it was apparently customer pressure that made you allow WMV for Opera again, but how come it's so hard to support it (and have it function for everyone) on the new site, when it always worked fine before?
[tests some stuff out...]
I just noticed the streaming versions won't even play at all (downloading them to my harddrive still works just fine), I get a sourcefilter not found-error. I know this occassionaly does happen when Opera and WMP are combined, but once again, if it worked on the old site, why not on the new one? And I can't help but point out the irony in the fact that I was one of the people for whom WMP worked in Opera on the old site...
Once again, I do apologize for complaining so much, when the site basically works just fine, and it's such a fine service you give us, but it's just seems like such a waste to not have the full service when it's obviously possible to make it work.
Since some of you mentioned Firefox, I tried that aswell (aside from Opera and IE), I haven't updated for a while, so I'm running version 1.01. The new videos worked fine, but as you said, the older ones did not. However, there most certainly is a WMP plugin for Firefox, though I'm not sure how to install it if it hasn't been handled automatically by FF or WMP (unlike QT in Opera, I couldn't find any easily identifiable pluginfiles in any of the browsers).
And yet once more, sorry for the extended moaning, and thank you for the fantastic website.

Looks like the quicktime issues are fixed for Firefox (seems to be, so far). WMP seems to still be a little buggy but I don't mind that. Quicktime's fine for me.
Nice turnaround guys!

The difference is that we're now using cookie based authentication, and apparently Mozilla browsers with Windows Media Player aren't currently compatible with that. Hopefully they'll sort it out soon, if it's not intentional.

Ok. I give up. How do you download the latest Overkill? Both the Qt and WMV links pop up in a little window with the option to watch the confession which also has an option to "right click to download" which tells me the link is broken when I try to use it.
I love this site, but I really really hate this new layout. I used to simply right click on the desired file. Now there are options everywhere.

This seems to the right time to make my appearance. Hello all! I am hooked on this website and visit it daily just to read in the forum, mostly. I was finally able to afford one month on the old server and that was one month I will not soon forget. It is the only website that I have actually ever sent money to for a service of any type, so that tells you how intrigued I was at what I had found here. I came across this site accidently while researching the term "mort".
When I heard that there would be a change in the website, I held off from paying another month's service because I expected issues to come up, as they often do. I just wanted to give the administrators time to work the kinks out before paying out any more of my hard-to-come-by money.
I may be speaking for more than myself when I say that I look forward to the problems getting worked out soon, and glad that I am not one of those that is involved in calling for help to get my month's worth of service. I would have been one of those that is becoming frustrated with what seemed like a good investment but is now being counted as a loss due to format issues.
I know that the administration here wants to give their public the best service possible and I know that sometimes change is hard to accept. I also know that losing money on an investment is no fun at all.
These things do take time, and I wish the site's admin. team all the best in getting it working again.

I'm using Firefox 1.0.7 if that helps. It still is showing up as a broken link if I use the right click to download.

Is it just me?
Clicking "new posts" gets me to the new posts. Or not.

Since we track how much data each user has downloaded, we can give refunds to subscribers who can't get Agony to work. I would hope there are none, because we know it works, it's just a matter of having things set up right sometimes. So anyone who might be contemplating taking the plunge, your investment is safe. Just don't write in 100 megabytes later and tell us you couldn't download anything!

Try downloading/installing the CURRENT version of Firefox 1.5. I use it and have no problem downloading from the site. The Windows Media plug-in doesn't work with this site (Richard explains why above), but I'm resigned to that. I don't much care for QT, so I simply download anything that interests me, play it on Windows Media Player, and keep it if I like it. Or not.
