Distortion on flash player

Lately I've been getting what I call mini sound dropouts while using MP4 playback. When I use flash player, this doesn't happen, but, when I go full screen it has that horrible vertical distortion that makes faces look like a football.  Any cure for this ? I find no settings for flash player, and I can't really see having to change my screen resolution every time I use it. just wondering how other folks get around this problem.
