Starting with the June 1st. submissions even with WMV selected for playback, it defaults to flash player. It seems to download a little faster, but the toolbar doesn't always come back from the hidden position, so I have to minimize the video to gain control of it. Also, I miss being able to charge the playback speed that WMV has. Any way around this, or is it my PC ?

Hey ranger,
WMV and MOV formats were dropped as of June 1st and FLV and MP4 became the new formats. Better all round compatibility, and less taxing on the BA edit department.
MP4 should playback across all browsers, and you can DL the vids in HD or the smaller size in MP4 which should play back across multiple media players, be it QT player, windows media player, vlc etc. From there you could change the playback speed.
It seems to download a little faster, but the toolbar doesn't always come back from the hidden position, so I have to minimize the video to gain control of it.
I'm not quite sure what you mean here, ranger87. Sorry.
Where it says 'Select format for video playback' in the lightbox window, it should only show you the formats that are able to be played in your chosen browser. Your chosen media settings should also by default remember your last settings, and if that format isn't available then it would move to the next one that is, likely to be the flash player.
Are you on a PC or MAC? What browser? What media settings are you selecting?

Thanks Lauren, Yes, MP4 works fine. Dropping of the WMV format explains it

When viewing full screen with flash player, the toolbar at the bottom of the video that automatically hides, is supposed to come back when the mouse pointer is moved to the bottom of the screen, and it doesn't always do it. I have to hit the "esc" button to shrink the video and use the toolbar. ( PC running IE9 and Windows 7 )
Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this.

Hey ranger87,
I can see what you are talking about now. Have you tried using other browsers, I've always found Internet Explorer to be a bit icky and I gave up using it long ago. Personally I have always liked Firefox, but it's not for everyone. (I also think that BA looks better in Firefox too ) The issue you've mentioned doesn't happen in Firefox for me.
Secondly, I'm going to suggest that you download the vids in HD if you can rather than viewing the smaller flash vids in full screen, only because by viewing the smaller videos stretched out to full screen it really does mean your not getting the best of the vids.
I was curious if you have a multi-screen setup? I have multi-screen setup here and for myself when I played the video on one screen and viewed 'full screen' the controls didn't come back when I had clicked off the full screen video. I was able to get the player controls back, but I had to click on the video to pause it, then click off screen and click back on (weird and frustrating). There is def an issue there with the player controls not coming back like that, I'll forward the issue on to our tech guy to suss out.
Perhaps give my suggestions above a try in the meantime

yeah IE is a piece of crap as a browser, always has been, firefox was very good up until version 18.0 when they started messing it up a bit and by default forced all users to use tabbed browsing and you have to change the setting to drop this option, before you had to enable it, and i hate tabbed browsing.
i use version 17.8 "extended support release" so i have the older firfox the way i liked it, but now it seems they are forcing updates that i dont want, and if mozilla keeps this up i just might go to something else like chrome, but i didnt like that the last time i used it.
the best player for any files is Media Player Classic home cinema, plays every video and audio format out of the box without having to install codec packs.
